Debonair’s Egyptian Adventure with WGCU

We hope you can join us on our second fundraising trip for WGCU to fascinating Egypt!
Just below the photos is the itinerary for this trip of a lifetime to see the Great Pyramids, the Sphinx, The Valley of the Kings, Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel, and more!

Tarek also arranged and escorted Rick Steves during the filming of his Egypt special that can be seen on WGCU or your local PBS station. Tarek and his wife hosted Rick in their home for a delicious home-cooked Egyptian dinner.

Wednesday 21 September – Arrival Cairo
Upon arrival at the Cairo International airport and before immigration an Egypt and Beyond travel representative will meet you and assist you through immigration “Look for your name on a sign”. Once you have collected your bags, then pass through customs to transfer you to your hotel.

Thursday 22 September – Cairo
Early morning visit to the Egyptian Museum. The museum holds an astonishing array of archaeological finds, but nothing compares to the exquisite riches of Tutankhamun, whose death-mask is magnificent, after lunch drive to set off to explore the mysteries of the Pyramids, first we visit the Great Pyramids of Giza “Cheops, Chaperon, and Menkaure”, plenty of photo opportunities at the Panorama. Afterward, we will visit the mighty Sphinx, and nearby visit the Valley Temple. Before returning to the hotel, you will have a chance to visit the Karnak Gallery for quality souvenirs, silver & gold. Around 6:30 pm you will be picked up for dinner tonight at a local restaurant. Back to the hotel and overnight.

Friday 23 September – Cairo
Around 4 am this morning (breakfast boxes will be organized) transfer to the Great Pyramids of Giza for a special private opening of the Pyramids area for our group & Enjoy a lecture with Dr. Zahi Hawass about the history of Egypt, an experience of a lifetime is waiting for you!!!
Later on drive to the oldest, ancient cemetery of Sakkara. View the world’s first monumental stone building, the Step Pyramid of King Zoser, built by the famous engineer Imhotep. After visiting the complex continue to one of the Mastabas (funeral chambers) built nearby, for an inside visit. Then visit the carpet school to see how local women learn new skills to help their families.
After lunch walk through El Moez Street & visit the Textile Museum, hold an immaculately maintained collection of textiles, tools, and other artIfacts. The lights are low to protect the pieces, and the whole museum is temperature- and humidity-controlled! The Egyptian Textile Museum may indeed be one of the best-cared-for museums in Cairo, continue to Khan El Khalili Bazaar one of the world’s oldest bazaars through to El Moez St., Spice market “AL Ataren”, you will get a chance to visit the perfume factory shop where you will experience how the Pharaohs used to make irresistible essence.

Saturday 24 September – Cairo
This morning visit Old Cairo where in AD 98-177, the Roman Emperor Trajan built a military fortress on the site which later evolved into a Christian & Jewish enclave. Dating from the 5th century, Abu-Serga is the oldest of its churches containing a crypt where Coptic tradition claims the Holy Family rested after fleeing from Herod. The remains also include El Mullaqa (hanging), a church built over the remains of the Roman gate, and the Coptic Museum with a wonderful collection of medieval statues, icons, and colorful textiles,

Sunday 25 September – Luxor
Morning at leisure.
Transfer from hotel to the airport, fly Cairo to Luxor, then transfer to your hotel for check-in. Afternoon and evening at leisure to enjoy the wonderful gardens of this hotel.

Monday 26 September – Cruise
Morning Balloon ride aboard Nelly, as per the name list of those who paid their deposit by 5/1/21!!!!
After breakfast, check out from the hotel and transfer to your cruise which you will board for the next 4 nights. This morning will start with Karnak temple, the greatest example of worship in history, dedicated to the God Amon, his wife Mut, and their son Khonsu. After Lunch will visit Deir El Madina “workmen’s village – the tomb of Senedgem ” and Valley of Nobles ” tomb of Ramosa”.

Tuesday 27 September – Cruise
Today transfer to the West Bank, to visit the Temple of Hatshepsut, the mortuary temple of Queen Hatshepsut of Dynasty XVIII was built just north of the Middle Kingdom temple of Mentuhotep Nebhepetre in the bay of cliffs known as Deir el-Bahri. In ancient times the temple was called Djeser-djeseru, meaning the ‘sacred of sacred’. It was undoubtedly influenced by the style of the earlier temple at Deir el-Bahri, but Hatshepsut’s construction surpassed anything which had been built before both in its architecture and its beautiful carved reliefs. Continue on to Valley of the Kings, Here, hundreds of tombs, including that of Tutankhamun, were carved into the desert rock., Sail to Esna, Rest of the afternoon is free at leisure to enjoy cruising the Nile.

Wednesday 28 September – Cruise
After breakfast on board, you will enjoy visiting the Temple of Horus in Edfu, the best-preserved temple on the Nile. Sail to Kom-Ombo; where you will visit the temples of Horus the falcon god and Sobek the crocodile god. Sail to Aswan.

Thursday 29 September – Cruise
Morning visit to Temple of Philae, Botanical Gardens & Nubian village excursion by motorboat to experience how Nubian people live their day to day life today.

Friday 30 September – Aswan
Excursion: After breakfast check out from your cruise to be transferred to Aswan airport to fly to, at Abu Simbel you will visit the temples of the great Ramses II and his Queen Nefertari. These temples received world-wide attention in 1968 when they were completely dismantled and relocated to avoid inundation. Fly back to Aswan and transfer to your hotel where you can spend the rest of the day relaxing or sightseeing.

Saturday 01 October – Cairo
After breakfast, check out from your hotel and be transferred to the Aswan airport for your flight to Cairo. Upon arrival, our representative will meet and assist you in getting from the airport to the Cairo hotel to rest this afternoon. Around 6:00 pm you will be picked up for our Farewell Dinner at a local restaurant.

Sunday 02 October – Departure (B)
After breakfast, we will be transferred to Cairo international airport to fly back home with everlasting memories of the Land of Egypt.
